House Energy and Commerce Democrats Express Strong Support for Mental Health Reform
Reps. Matsui, Tonko, Loebsack, and Kennedy Lead Colleagues in Letter to Committee Leadership
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Members of the House Energy &
Commerce Committee expressed their strong support for mental health reform in a letter to Chairman Upton and Ranking
Member Pallone. Committee members urged colleagues to support legislative reforms that prioritize the needs of patients
and families experiencing mental illness.
“It is time for our broken mental health care system to receive the attention it needs in this country,” said
Congresswoman Matsui (D-CA). “I urge Committee members to join us in bringing mental health patients’ right to services,
support, and treatment to the forefront of policy discussions.
“I am pleased by the continued collaboration with our
colleagues on the important topic of mental health, and look forward to future conversations on the best path forward
for formulating legislation that brings parity for patients with mental illnesses.
“I have very specific concerns about
current legislative proposals. Yet, I hope that our Republican colleagues can come to the table so that we can have a
substantive conversation and reach a compromise on mental health reform.”
