2025 Legislative Agenda

  1. Support increased access to affordable healthcare and Medicaid expansion to meet the needs of the people in Alabama.
  2. Support improving access to mental health bills at the state and federal levels that include multidisciplinary models and services.
  3. Support proposed legislation to expand tenants and housing rights in Alabama.
  4. Support legislation and policies involving felony disenfranchisement, voting rights, and the ballot.
  5. Support policies that reduce barriers to voting and develop access for early voting strategies.
  6. Advocate for access to a quality, equitable public education in Alabama with community other stakeholders.
  7. Support bills acknowledging criminal justice reform in Alabama with community organizations.
  8. Advocate and support organizations sponsoring food insecurities and poverty in Alabama.
  9. Advocate for workforce reinvestment initiatives that will leverage greater value in hiring social workers.
  10. Promote civil rights of all Alabamians regarding age, gender, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or political affiliation.

2023 Legislative Agenda

The legislative agenda of NASW-AL’s Legislative Committee for the 2023 legislative session is still being formulated as bills are pre-filed and as we prepare for the session to begin. We welcome member input and engagement.
